Brian’s Biography

Brian Melvin got his start in the limelight originally as an amateur boxer. After fighting in four Golden Gloves tournaments and winning the Southern New England Golden Gloves Championship, Brian turned professional in 1995. He remained undefeated until his boxing career ended prematurely due to reoccurring injuries. To fill the competitive void he began doing stand-up comedy around the Boston area.

Brian honed his comedy skills while achieving a masters degree at Emerson College in Boston, following in the footsteps of such alumni as Dennis Leary and Jay Leno. While at Emerson he took up film production and for his thesis completed a documentary on Mike Tyson’s first post-prison fight against Peter McNeeley. As one of Peter’s stable-mates and sometimes sparring partner, Brian was given special access to the event.

He was able to capture exclusive behind the scenes footage of the 3 months leading up to the fight, which would turn out to be the most watched boxing match in history. His documentary was highly acclaimed throughout the country and shown at the prestigious New York Independent Film and Video Festival.

Today Brian works at an Investment Firm and continues to do comedy in the Boston area. This past year Brian has taken his comedy career to the next level, participating in festivals and opening for headlining acts. He continues to box in the gym to stay in shape but recognizes that his competitive fighting days are over.
